Police accidentally shoot two women at bus terminal in New York

Two female bystanders were accidentally shot by police officers at a bus station in New York as they tried to stop a man from causing chaos on the roads.

One woman, Theodora Ray, 54, was struck in the leg breaking two bones in her calf and sending her falling to the floor, while another, Sahara Khoshakhlagh, 35, was grazed on the buttocks at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, reports the NY Post.

Onlooker Kerri Ann Nesbeth uploaded pictures of the scene to her Twitter account.

Police were attempting to control an "emotionally disturbed" Glen Broadnax, 35, who was causing a commotion in the middle of the road near Times Square at around 9.30pm on Saturday night.

He was seen to run into the traffic at the junction of 8th Avenue and 42nd Street.

According to Sky News, eye witness Fabiola Ferere said: "First he got hit by a black truck, and then he got up and was clipped by another car.

"The police literally could not control him. He had to be on something, like narcotics or bath salts."

The Mirror reports that police commissioner Ray Kelly said the man had "simulated shooting the officers" before they opened fire.

Witnesses shouted "He's got a gun!", before the shots rang out.

According to the New York Post, Mr Broadnax was finally taken down with a Taser, and arrested.

The paper also reported Mr Kelly said the two innocent victims were "in good spirits".
