The moment a light plane lost power in the skies over Brisbane, Australia, has been caught on cockpit camera.

Josh Matica, an 18-year-old student, was on his first training flight when the plane lost power and started gliding.

His instructor, Doug Field, 22, took the controls back from Mr Matica, but could not regain power, reports The Morning Bulletin.

He then carried out what has been described as a "textbook perfect" emergency landing in a horse paddock below them.

The crash-landing was caught on camera from the cockpit of the Jabiru J-170 plane.

According to the Brisbane Times, the young men walked away from the crash with no serious injuries, despited landing on a barbed wire fence.

The crash is being investigated by aviation authorities.
