Why was Brighton voted worst UK seaside holiday resort?

Brits have voted Brighton as the worst UK seaside holiday resort - because it's too 'trendy'.

Despite the fact it is a more upmarket area than resorts like Blackpool and Skegness, Brighton came out at the top of the poll because of its "trendiness, dreadful parking", and stupidly-dressed clubbers making the most of the famous nightlife, reports the Daily Mail.

The paper adds that other reasons given were that locals had "chips on their shoulders" and the resort was full of "bohemians and bad art".

The poll was carried out by the Real Holiday Report and 2,522 people have voted.

Brighton came out with 39.4%, with Blackpool second worst with 16.1%, followed by Skegness (15.9%), Scarborough (14.4%), and Bournemouth (5%).

Meanwhile, a recent report revealed that seaside resorts are a "dumping ground" for hard-up people and benefit claimants, reports the Huffington Post.

As visitor numbers decrease at tourism hotspots like Blackpool and Margate, the resort become racked with poverty and deprivation.

Huffington Post adds that four of the UK's top 10 hotspots for teenage pregnancies are by the sea, while Blackpool has the highest rate of children in care in England.
