A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after an accident while surfing at a beach in Devon.

The boy sustained a back injury at Westward Ho! and was taken to North Devon District Hospital by air ambulance at 5pm on Thursday, This is North Devon reports.

According to the BBC, RNL beach lifeguards, Westward Ho! coastguard team and South Western Ambulance were involved in the rescue.

The surfer's condition is not known.
