Britain set for two weeks of hot summer weather

Forecasters have predicted hot weather in Britain for the rest of July with a "scorching" weekend on the way.

Temperatures of 30C have been predicted and fine weather for the Wimbledon final.

On its blog, the Met office says: "We are seeing some very strong signals for high pressure to dominate the weather from around Friday and then persist for several days afterwards.

"In summer high pressure means fine weather, and it also looks like it will become very warm as well.

"Normally we can't give much detail beyond the 5-day forecast period, but with the current situation we can give a forecast beyond that with a higher than usual level of confidence.

"So for, say, the Men's Wimbledon Final on Sunday it looks like it will be dry and very warm with a good deal of sunshine."

For next week, the Met Office says that "it looks highly likely that one or two places will nudge towards the 30C mark."

Meanwhile, Leon Brown of The Weather Channel tells AOL Travel "the weekend looks glorious for most of the UK and Ireland with hot sunshine and light breezes."

Temperatures of up to 26C are expected on Saturday and 27C on Sunday, with a few locations seeing 28C.

"The exception is the far northwest of Scotland where a weak front may give a little light rain and more cloudy weather by Sunday and increasing cloud is expected for the northwest of Ireland on Sunday," says Leon.

It could turn a little cooler from the north by the middle of July, but there will still be plenty of dry and fine weather in the south, with showers for the north.

Leon adds: "July looks set to be a warm month with the jet stream keeping up to the north and high pressure over the UK. Perhaps the warmest July for five years."
