One in three Brits feel 'ripped off' on holiday

Almost a third of Britons (31 per cent) say they feel as if they have been ripped off when booking a holiday, a new travel survey has revealed.

The Great British Holiday Report commissioned by Teletext Holidays found that families are the most budget conscious travellers and feel more cheated than others.

But it's not all bad as the planning and preparation for holidays is enough to put us in a good mood according to the findings, with nearly a third of Brits (31 per cent) saying they feel particularly excited when on the journey to the destination.

Almost one in five of us (19 per cent) say it is when we actually book our getaway and 10 per cent say the most exciting part is deciding where to go.

23 per cent of holidaymakers book within two months of travelling and more than two thirds (67 per cent) book within six months of departure. Of these, 12 per cent are possibly enticed by last-minute offers and book within a month of travel.

"There are deals to be had right up until the last minute and we'd encourage those people who would typically book well in advance, to keep their eyes open for last minute offers too," says Amy Patel at Teletext Holidays.

Men are the most likely to book a last-minute deal, while women are almost twice as likely to book more than a year in advance.

Although the average Briton spends £554.40 per person on their holiday, a total of 45 per cent spend £400 or less, with just 17 per cent spending more than £800.

This shows that a budget-friendly break, rather than a luxury getaway, is now the preferred option for the majority of Britons.
