A capsized canoeist had a lucky escape when an Anglesey resident spotted him clinging to a rock in the sea.

BBC News reports that The Maritime and Coastguard Agency was called by a person who lives in the village of Rhosneigr, who had been using binoculars from their house near the shore.

The man was rescued by another canoeist before the RNLI arrived at the scene, but the lifeboat crew treated the man on the shore for the effects of the cold. He had spent 30 minutes in the water before he was rescued and was semi-conscious by the time he reached shore.

The man was then taken to hospital in Bangor, Gwynedd.
