Sahara? No, sandstorms causing havoc in Scotland

A bout of ferocious sandstorms have been causing havoc for farmers and commuters in Moray, Scotland, this week.

Some reports suggest there could be around £50,000 worth of damage to crops.

Barley farmer Cameron MacIver told the Daily Mail: "There's parts around my farm where the only thing showing above the sand is the top bit of the fence."

Snowploughs have even been sent out by Moray Council to help clear the roads, but gales and winds are not helping the situation, and some carriageways are still seeing sand blown across them.

According to the Herald Scotland, drivers have been warned to take extra care, and some motorists "have compared the visibility to the conditions caused by the Los Angeles smog".

Meanwhile, as sandstorms are occurring in Scotland, Britain is set to enjoy one of the warmest days of the year in the south this week, with temperatures likely to reach 22C in the South East on Wednesday.
