The world's most expensive holiday costing £990,000 has been sold to an unnamed man from China.

VeryFirstTo.com's two-year trip takes in the the world's 962 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, from the Great Wall of China to the Grand Canyon and Machu Picchu (pictured).

According to The Guardian, a PhD student has bought the ultimate package holiday and will be taking the trip in 2014.

The buyer of the luxury tour will travel business or first class on all flights and stay in the world's most famous luxury hotels, such as the George V in Paris and the New York Plaza.

Founder of VeryFirstTo.com Marcel Knobil told the Daily Telegraph: "We've had plenty of interest from other parties too."

Mr Knobil revealed that an Italian is also booking the holiday and is in the process of finalising his itinerary for the amazing holiday.
