Nick Clegg stays in exclusive £7m swiss chalet on ski holiday

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg spent a week at a £7 million 20-bedroom chalet on a ski holiday in Switzerland.

The Lib Dem leader stayed in the luxury Swiss resort Davos at a chalet owned by his parents.

The Daily Mirror said the politician was enjoying a life of luxury while more than two million households were losing council tax benefit and hundreds of thousands of people living in social housing were being hit by the bedroom tax.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Clegg was on a private holiday funded by the family.

The exclusive chalet would normally cost around £10,000 to rent for a week.

It is located just 15 minutes from resort Klosters and is set by a picturesque lake.

Days after his trip, Nick Clegg defended his ski break and said on his LBC show that he had a "great" time and added: "Perhaps slightly over-portrayed in some parts of the press. I'm not quite the Donald Trump of the Alps."

Last summer, Nick Clegg flew with easyJet on a holiday to Spain with his son Miguel. Clegg and his family often spend summer holidays in Northern Spain at his wife Miriam's family home.

He told The Guardian: "It is unbelievable. It is Europe's best kept secret. Just amazing. There are these isolated, deserted beaches, fantastic big mountain ranges and there is nobody there."
