A British motorcycling champion has been arrested for being drunk in Dubai after his wife fell to her death from a hotel room during their honeymoon.
The Sun reports that Sean Emmett, 43, faces jail after he went to sign police papers nine days after the death of his new wife Abbie, 27, and was accused of smelling of alcohol.
The former Superbike star admitted downing three beers, three Sambuca and two brandies the night before.
Authorities in Dubai are pressing charges as it is illegal to drink in the Arab emirate without a license, but bar staff rarely ask for proof and millions of tourists drink there every year.
Emmett said he was served in the bar of the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel where the couple had been staying.
The father-of-three said: 'There is no way on Earth I would walk into a police station drunk.
'Unfortunately if you have any alcohol in your system it seems to be very black and white here - they just think you're drunk.'
He added that he had already spent four days in a prison cell after his arrest on 28 February and was now banned from leaving Dubai until he is brought before a judge on 30 April.
Abbie Emmett died in Dubai on 19 February.
The Daily Mail reports that forensic tests revealed she had been drinking but local police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
