Norovirus hits another cruise ship

Another cruise ship has been hit with a norovirus outbreak and has returned to port after reports of more than 100 people suffering from the winter vomiting bug.

WPTV.com reports that Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas returned to Port Everglades in Florida on Friday after the illness was reported within hours of the ship setting off.

'Vision of the Seas experienced an elevated number of persons with a gastrointestinal illness on its last sailing,' Royal Caribbean International said in a statement.

Officials said 105 of the 1,991 passengers on board the cruise ship and three of the 772 crew members experienced the illness.

'At Royal Caribbean International we have high health standards for all our guests and crew,' the statement read. 'During the sailing, we conduct enhanced cleaning on board the ship, to help prevent the spread of the illness.'

Morningstar analyst Jaime Katz told Reuters: 'It adds insult to injury and comes during high-booking season.'

When the cruise ship docked in Port Everglades, the company conducted extensive sanitising on the ship and within the cruise terminal to help prevent any illness from affecting the subsequent sailing.

This is the latest of cruise ship mishaps in recent months.

In December, around 200 passengers on Queen Mary 2's 12-night tour of the Caribbean were hit by the winter vomiting bug. P&O's Oriana also saw 150 suffer from norovirus in December.
