A group of airport staff in Dublin have landed a massive €6.4million (£5.5million) in the Lotto.

The syndicate of 17 lucky Dublin Airport workers collected their winnings at Lotto HQ on Monday.

According to The Independent, the group, who do not want to be identified, has been playing the lottery together for three years.

It emerged that one winner has extra reason to smile - as they only recently joined the syndicate.

The nine women and eight men won €378,000 each after their numbers came up in Saturday night's draw.

One delighted winner told The Irish Sun: 'It's just great news - the perfect start to a Monday morning.

'So far plans include paying off bills and mortgages - and there are even some wedding plans on the cards.'

The staff all work behind the scenes in the airport's accounts and administration departments.

Dublin Airport Authority's Siobhan Moore said: 'I came in this morning and I heard whoops and cheers all around.

'I know some who have been working here for years and one only joined fresh out of college six months ago. They were all just so shocked. It will be a nice boost for some people.'

The winning ticket was bought in the Spar shop in the arrivals hall of Terminal One on 6 February and was a €112 multi-draw purchase valid for eight draws.
