Sonji Coney Williams said she knew she'd hit something, but presumed she had killed it.
She told the Associated Press: "I was driving about 60 miles an hour, he never moved, and so I said, 'Oh my god I hit a bird', and I felt so bad but it was very dark and we didn't pull over."
The next say she was out shopping when a family noticed the bird glaring at them through the grill.
She said: "There was a family that pulled in front of my parking space and flagged me down. They said, 'Don't move, don't move! You have something in the grill of your truck!' And I said 'Yeah, what is it?' They said, 'It's an owl.'"
She added: "I'm about to faint. I have never experienced anything like that before in my life."
Wildlife officials came to the rescue of the Great Horned Owl, common in central Florida, and said it didn't appear to have sustained any injuries.
It will now be safely released back into the wild.
