Drunk British banker dies after jumping from rooftop bar into Singapore Harbour

A British banker died when he jumped seven floors from the rooftop bar of a Singapore hotel into the harbour below, while his friend filmed the incident on his mobile phone.

William Hart, 37, climbed over the metal railings which enclose the Lantern Bar on top of the Fullerton Bay Hotel, and jumped off. His friend, Mr Maruki Yuki, was filming their conversation because he wanted to show Mr Hart what he had said when he was drunk.

Although Mr Yuki tried to talk him out of it he didn't listen, and was confident that he could make the jump.

The Daily Mail reports that his friend saw large splash in the water and rushed downstairs to look for him, but he failed to resurface. His body was recovered from the Marina three hours later.

Mr Hart, 37, was more than three times the legal drink drive limit when he jumped on April 7, 2011.

Westminster's Coroner's Court was told that he was a keen sportsman and had performed similar stunts before. He died from drowning with multiple injuries.

An examination of the Lantern Bar found that the metal railings met safety requirements.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, Coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox said: "It is a very sad take of a young man intoxicated doing something profoundly stupid which unfortunately took his life. It is such a tragic waste for those left behind."
