Coastguard abseils cliff to save terrified dog

One dog owner's pet pooch had his head turned by the local birds - and ended up at the bottom of a cliff.
Charlie, a Border Collie, fell over the edge of a cliff as he chased birds while out on a walk with owners Kim and Gary Bibeger in Brean Down, Somerset.

The dog plunged down the cliff at about 4pm on Sunday, leaving his owners with no option but to call emergency services.

Charlie was saved by Dave Welland from the Burnham-on-Sea coastguard cliff rescue team after he abseiled down to lift him to safety.

Kim told SWNS: "Charlie ran over the cliff edge while chasing after some low-flying birds.

"It was a heart-stopping moment when we saw him disappear and then to look over the edge and see he was clinging onto the rocks at the bottom of the cliffs just above the sea water.
"There was no way of safely reaching him so we called 999 and asked for the Coastguard."
