Emergency services are searching for a 54-year-old man who is believed to have fallen into the River Usk in Brecon, Wales.

The man is said to have plunged into the water near Llanfaes Bridge in the early hours of this morning.

Thirty firefighters, including search and rescue boat crews from Hay-on-Wye and Swansea, are taking part in the search.

Insp Eric Evans of Dyfed-Powys Police told the BBC: "At the moment the emergency services are co-ordinating an urgent search of the river and surrounding areas.

"As you can imagine with the rainfall we've seen recently, the river is moving very quickly, so we are concerned for his safety if he has gone in to the water."

The news comes as a group of hikers this month found a body of a man on a mountain in Snowdonia.

Volunteers from the Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team recovered the man's body, which is believed to have been on Cadair Idris for some time.

According to the BBC, North Wales Police said officers are in the process of tracing the man's relatives, and that formal identification could take some time.

The death of the man, thought to be in his 30s, is not being treated as suspicious.
