Calling all Italiophiles! Sicily is the place to go for those in need of luxury for less this year. Compared with the mainland, the island represents good value for money (villas cost up to 30 per cent less, even in peak season), and with friendly people, jolly good food and a laid-back, laissez-faire atmosphere, you'll begin to wonder whether Tuscany is just a tad overrated.
Sicily specialists have been splashing out with some beautiful new offerings recently - these three are all especially tempting because they boast swimming pools with splendid views.
Soak up the views of Etna while splashing in the pool at Casa Scimone (above), in the heart of Taormina. The villa sleeps up to 11 and costs from £2, 330 per week with Italian Days.
Casa d'Eraclea (above), in the south west of the island, boasts a wonderful infiinty pool overlooking the sea. It's perfectly located for sightseeing: both the Valley of the Temples and Selinunte are within easy reach. Prices start at £2,290, sleeping six, with Solo Sicily.
Casa Di Pietra sleeps 13 (above) is a good choice for families and groups as it sleeps 13 altogether. Set in huge garden just outside the baroque city of Modica, Casa di Pietra is within striking distance of white sandy beaches. Prices start at £3,850 with Think Sicily.
