A baggage handler strike at Stansted that threatened to cause chaos for families during the great Easter getaway has now been axed after successful peace talks.

Over 150 members of the GMB union had voted to strike on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday over Swissport's plans for shift changes that would lead to wage cuts of up to £1,000.

According to The Sun, Swissport said in a statement: "We are pleased that passengers and families travelling over the Easter weekend will no longer face potential disruption.

"We will continue our talks in an attempt to reach a joint consensus that ensures we understand our commercial challenges and balance the need for the work-life balance of our employees."

According to the Telegraph, GMB said the changes would also see baggage handlers travelling into work an extra 13 times a year, incurring additional transport and childcare costs

Talks over the situation have been ongoing since January, and will continue later this month.
