Video: Shocking moment commuter pushes woman on to Tube tracks

Police are searching for a man who cruelly and randomly pushed a 23-year-old woman on to the tracks at the Leicester Square Tube station.

The victim is thought to have had a brief conversation with the stranger, then, following a small row over his hat, the man turned and pushed her on to the Northern Line tracks.

The woman was extremely lucky that there wasn't a train pulling into the station, and she also missed the live rail by just inches.

But, although she suffered a severe cut to her side, she was able to pull herself back onto the platform with the help of fellow passengers and a Tube worker.

Both platforms of the Northern Line were shut for the evening after the woman was taken to the hospital, and British Transport Police are still searching for the man following the attack, which happened in September 2011.

The woman's friends attempted to restrain the culprit, but failed to keep him at the scene.

The BTP released the footage so it could be shown on the BBC's six-part documentary The Tube, and are now re-appealing for information.

BTP Detective Sergeant Fin Egan told the Daily Mail: "This was a dangerous and reckless act which could have had grave consequences had a Tube train been approaching.

"The victim suffered a nasty cut to her side as she landed on the rails, but was able to pull herself back up onto the platform.

"The platform was busy at that time and I am appealing for anyone who recognises the man in the images or who witnessed the incident to get in contact."
