A papier maché haggis dressed in a pink kilt caused a security meltdown at a railway station in Scotland this week.

The student art project was put on a train on its own at Kirkcaldy in Fife, from where it travelled 114 miles in three hours to Inverness, according to the Metro.

The 4ft haggis was then discovered by passengers in the luggage department and the alarm was raised.

Failing to see the funny side, staff called the British Transport Police, who were waiting for the panic-inducing pud at the station.

The 'dangerous dessert', which read "this haggis needs friends", was removed from the premises.

It's thought the prank may have something to do with the annual Scottish celebration of Burns Night, which took place on Wednesday.
