Jamie and Louise Redknapp will no longer be the face of Thomas Cook, the holiday company has confirmed.

The celebrity couple were hired in 2009 to become the faces of the 'Don't just book it, Thomas Cook it' campaign, for which they starred in sunshine-soaked ads that some described as 'cheesy'.

But the famous pair are set to be replaced by new faces as Christmas approaches, says chief executive Sam Weihagen, who told The Sun: "They have gone into retirement.

"By the end of Christmas you will see some new faces. We are back focusing on the consumer."

The news comes as it was this week revealed the company will be closing 200 stores as it posted an annual pre-tax loss of £398m.

According to the Telegraph, Thomas Cook, which takes six million Brits abroad a year, will initially close 125 stores, and plans to close 200 over the next two years as leases expire.
