Libyan travel company offers short breaks of war-torn countryAn anti-Gaddafi photo market in Tripoli, which is part of the tour - PA

A tour operator in Libya is advertising a three-day tour of 'post-war' Libya despite fighting still raging in Colonel Gaddafi's home town of Sirte.

Sherwes Travel offers trips to see the sites in Tripoli and the local Roman ruins, Leptis Magna.

On the first day of the tour, visitors can enjoy a guided walking tour of the centre of Tripoli, according to the company's web site. Day two takes tourists to Leptis Magna and Villa Sileen, a Byzantine dwelling which is closed for restoration.

On the final day, there is time for visitors to do some shopping in the old town of Tripoli.

The company's web site adds: "On a short break to Libya you will get a first impression of this fabulous country - that is just opening up to visitors."

Ibrahim Usta, the company's international customer assistant, told the Daily Mail: "We have everything...the desert, we have the sea, we have mountains. We just need the right people in the right place.

"The tour was very popular, actually. But not now, not yet. We have many inquiries right now but the problem is mainly security and visas.

Anti-Gaddafi fighters are still embroiled in battle in the dictator's former hometown of Sirte more than two months after Tripoli's fall.

The trip is running despite British government advice against all travel to Libya. Advice on the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office site says:

"Since 3 March we have advised against all travel to Libya. However in the light of improving security situation on the ground the FCO has decided to change our Travel Advice to advise against all but essential travel to Zuwara, Az Zawiya, Tripoli, al Khums, Zlitan and Misrata and the coastal towns from Ras Lanuf to the Egyptian border."

Looks like it may be a while before it's safe to go to Libya. But if you're in need of some sun this month, check out one of these holidays for a more peaceful break in the sun...
