Saudi Arabian restaurant starts fining diners who leave leftovers

Bit off more than you could chew? No problem - but you'll have to pay for it.

A restaurant in Saudi Arabia has introduced a fine for leaving leftovers, in a bid to tackle the problem of food waste.

Fahad al Anezi, owner of the Marmar Restaurant in Dammam, says some of his clients' 'egos are bigger than their stomachs', according to the news.com.au.

He thinks his restaurant-goers are more concerned with status than watt they're eating, showing off with excessively expensive orders, and then not filling up on the food.

Mr al Anezi says he has the backing of other Saudis, and that fines will be calculated based on the amount of food left on the plate.
