A-Listers have been heading for Venice in the last few days for the 68th International Venice Film Festival.

It's shaping up to be a great year for female stars, with Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley all dazzling on the red carpet.

Gwyneth Paltrow was in town to promote Contagion, the new film by Steven Soderbergh in which she gets killed off by a lethal virus.

She travelled from her hotel by motorboat and looked stunning on the red carpet in a pale pink organza gown.

Madonna won positive reviews for her directorial debut, W.E., which tells the story of King Edward VII's abdication and marriage to Wallis Simpson. She walked down the red carpet in a striking Vionnet dress with a red butterfly motif and posed with the film's stars James D'Arcy, Andrea Riseborough and Abbie Cornish.
