Kate and William jet off to the Seychelles on their honeymoon

Updated

St James' Palace has confirmed that Prince William and Kate Middleton have jetted off to the Seychelles for a luxurious honeymoon - 10 days after their lavish royal wedding.

The couple were seen leaving their Anglesey home on Monday with large amounts of luggage.

According to the Telegraph, a spokeswoman for the Indian Ocean country's department of tourism said the royal couple landed at the country's main airport at 7.20am local time this morning.

They were then transferred by helicopter to a private island where they were expected to spend 10 days at a secluded villa. The name of the island where they are staying has not been confirmed.

The newlyweds were expected to go on their honeymoon on the 30 April, the day after their wedding, but decided to delay the getaway and spent the weekend at home instead.

But now they're making up for it with an ultra-luxurious holiday in the Indian Ocean.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will have a little bit of paradise all to themselves.

According to the Mirror, they're believed to have chosen one of the islands that are up for private hire. It means they will have the exclusive services of a top chef and be pampered by staff looking after their every whim.

A source told the paper: 'I think that for the first few days at least William and Kate will just want a bit of privacy.

'After the glitter and excitement of their wedding and all the organisation it involved they can't wait to spend some quality time on their own.'

And they couldn't have picked a better spot. The Seychelles is an idyllic archipelago of 115 islands, and a hotspot for honeymooners looking to soak up the sun on a white powdery beach, go sailing, scuba diving or fishing.

The climate is humid, but the temperature varies little throughout the year – from around 24C to 30CC
