Jeremy Clarkson escapes rumour mill on Barbados beach

Jeremy Clarkson and his wife of 18 years, Frances, put on a united front yesterday as they had fun in the sun on a Barbados beach amid rumours he is having an affair.

The Top Gear presenter and his wife, who is also his manager, were seen hitting the jet skis and a speedboat as they enjoyed the high life in the Caribbean paradise.

Meanwhile, at home, rumours are flying that Clarkson is having an affair with single mother Phillipa Sage, 42, who has been working alongside him as part of the international Top Gear Live tour.

Both parties have laughed off reports of a romance as 'nonsense', with Sage insisting: 'Jeremy and I are friends. I have worked with him, er, them (the Top Gear team) for years.'

When told she had been seen entering Clarkson's hotel suite in the early hours, Sage, who has a five-year-old son, told the Daily Mail: 'What? I often stay in colleagues' hotel rooms – that's not unusual.

'I have been pictured with Jeremy several times, dozens of times, while working on the show. We are just friends.'

Clarkson's mother Shirley also dismissed the allegations, insisting: 'It's a load of rubbish. He's right now on holiday with his wife and children, happy as Larry. He sent me a text on Mother's Day saying, 'I hear the Press think I'm Tiger Woods – don't worry, I'm not!'

And he certainly does look like he's having a splashing time with his wife in Barbados!
