Are you having a Happy Monday?

Updated

Feeling good this morning? Well, you should be - because today, January 31, has been dubbed 'Happy Monday' by experts, who reckon it's going to be the happiest day of 2011.

And the reason it's such a great day is that it's around now that we're all busy booking our summer holidays, which gives us a real buzz, says leading psychologist Dr David Holmes, from Manchester Metropolitan University.

He believes today is the most significant of the ten happy days we all experience in a regular year because it coincides with our first pay cheque and the booking of the family summer holiday.

'We each experience an average of 10 major happy days every year - but none are happier than January 31, or Happy Monday as it is now being called,' he said.

The other happiest days of 2011 include our birthdays, bank holidays, Midsummers day and the day we go on our holidays. We also feel good on March 27 this year, as it's when the clocks go forward and we get lighter evenings.

Not booked a holiday yet? There are some great money-saving deals out there worth snapping up. Check out Thomson Al Fresco for family holidays under £200 in a French holiday parc in May, and Expedia's summer deals, which include Turkey in June from £192 per person. And don't miss this one: a week in the five-star designer hotel Sao Rafael for £429 per person in June, including flights, bed and breakfast.
