Susanna Reid surprises viewers with response to Meghan interview

Good Morning Britain viewers were taken aback by Susanna Reid's response to Meghan Markle's latest TV appearance.

The Duchess of Sussex will appear on Thursday’s episode of Ellen DeGeneres' US chat show, and a preview clip was released to promote the interview.

"Goodness me, she put a rocket under practically everything frankly, from the royal family to this programme,” Reid said when discussing the new interview.

"Well, shall we have a little listen to what Meghan says?" Reid said, adding: "You would imagine that they would put out a clip perhaps about Harry, or perhaps her feelings about the royal family, or perhaps about everything that has happened in the wake of that. But no, we go right back to her humble, hard-working roots... let’s have a look."

In the clip, Markle says she was so low on cash that she once drove a faulty motor that she had to enter via the boot.

As GMB cut back to the studio, Reid, who called Markle’s interviews "increasingly hard to defend", sarcastically said: "There we go – let’s never mind the private jets."
