New Study Says Sleeping with Dogs Is a Bad Idea but Nobody's Buying It

A recent study claims that sleeping with your dog in the same room may negatively affect your sleep quality. The survey studies the answers of 1,500 American adults and found that half reported co-sleeping with their pets — defined in the study as sleeping in the same room with a pet for at least part of the night.

The interesting part about the study concluding that sleeping with a pet can contribute to a bad night's rest? This only applies to dogs and not to cats.

Live Science conducted the study that was published in Scientific Reports and reports that their research team compared the sleep habits of people who did and didn't co-sleep with pets. Their  analyses revealed that participants who co-slept with pets had poorer sleep quality and more insomnia symptoms than those who did not. These findings persisted even after accounting for demographic differences between these groups. When considering pet type, they found evidence for a negative effect on sleep when co-sleeping with dogs but no evidence for a negative effect on sleep when co-sleeping with cats.

People on Facebook have a lot of opinions on this and one person said, "LOL. I have never been able to sleep with cats in the same room but I usually sleep fine with my dog." Another added, "Bs.My dog is my loyal friend and protector and snuggler when I’m emotional. She doesn’t get the floor." Another person hilariously replied, "The snoring and farting the constant tussle over the blankets are all gone since the divorce.Me and the dog now sleep on cloud nine."

And another person commented with a GIF of a cat typing and said "The author of this article." LOL!

The article also states, "Surprisingly, 93% of people in our study who co-slept with their pets believed that their pets had either a positive or neutral overall effect on their sleep."

The dog technically belongs to my kid, so we rarely sleep with him unless my daughter is out of town. We always sleep with the cats, and I personally wouldn't have it any other way. I think a lot of us decided to adopt pets so we could sleep with them! I'm sure some people even feel like they can't get a good night sleep unless their fur baby is with them.

Sure, if your dog is super hot or kicks you in the face or smells bad I think that could negatively impact your honk shoo mimimi time, and I will admit my cats do love waking me up at the crack of dawn for food like the little alarm clocks they are, but I know for a fact I smile in my sleep when I realize one of them is curled up next to me.
