Strictly’s Bobby Brazier reveals he and Dianne Buswell ‘bickered’
Former Strictly star Bobby Brazier has issued some advice for this year’s contestants as he revealed he and his pro partner Dianne Buswell did “bicker”.
The EastEnders actor – son of late Big Brother legend Jade Goody – took part in the BBC ballroom show last year. He spoke out amid its current crisis, which has seen pro Graziano Di Prima exiting after it was revealed he kicked celeb partner Zara McDermott and dancer Giovanni Pernice leaving amid allegations about his alleged conduct, which he denies.
Brazier was paired with Buswell last year and told the Daily Mail that his own experience was “great”. He and Buswell grew very close on the series, where they finished second to Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola.
We have a look at their friendship and at what Brazier had to say about their time dancing together.
Bobby Brazier 'bickered' with Dianne Buswell
Brazier revealed he had a blast on Strictly and that it was “everything I wanted it to be”.
“[Me and Buswell would] bicker here and there but we'd laugh it was just a real balance,” he explained.
“It was real, you spend so much time with someone doing something you've never done, that's really hard in a competition… so it's never going to be completely one thing. I was so grateful it was everything to such an intense extent.”
Bobby Brazier’s advice for Strictly contestants
The line-up for this year’s competition has started to be announced, with Jamie Borthwick, Montell Douglas, Tom Dean, Shayne Ward, Sarah Hadland, Pete Wicks, Tasha Ghouri and Dr Punam Krishan among those confirmed for the dancefloor so far. Toyah Willcox, JB Gill, Wynne Evans and Chris McCausland, with more celebs due to be confirmed.
Sharing his top tips for the 2024 hopefuls, Brazier said: “Take your lunch breaks and when your professional doesn't want to stop and you do, take that nap.” He also said stars should “politely request” that they were woken up nicely to make sure they were in a good place and ready to rehearse their moves, instead of “tired and angry”.
Bobby Brazier says 'I'm falling in love with Dianne Buswell'
Brazier and Buswell grew close during the competition and for a while there were even rumours that the so-called Strictly curse had struck again.
During the competition, Brazier told the Mirror at the Pride of Britain Awards: “I could speak about Dianne all day. She's just a diamond - you know what, I'm falling in love with her. She's just great. I feel very lucky." He also referred to the dancer as “my Juliet” in a chat with Closer, which some fans took to be a Romeo And Juliet reference.
However, Buswell is in a relationship with Joe Sugg, her 2018 Strictly partner. And she and Brazier also made it very clear that it was strictly platonic between them and that they saw each other as close friends or brother and sister.
When it was first revealed (on the Strictly launch show) that they would be dancing together, Buswell told fans: “I have already adopted Bobby as my little brother, and I already care so much about him, I just want him to have the best time ever."
Their friendship continued after the competition and they reunited for the Strictly tour. They recently got together again when they visited a care home in Borehamwood to entertain residents with a performance.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One this autumn.
