Transfer deadline day live: Updates on Cristiano Ronaldo, Chelsea, Arsenal, USMNT stars and more

The summer transfer window in European men's soccer has shut. News of deadline-day deals is still trickling in around the English Premier League, Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A, Germany's Bundesliga, France's Ligue 1 and elsewhere. But most business is done.

Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, is definitely staying at Manchester United, largely because no legitimate interest from a Champions League club ever appeared.

Christian Pulisic, likewise, remains at Chelsea, with the club "blocking any deals and holding him against his wishes," a source told Yahoo Sports on Wednesday.

But Chelsea was the biggest mover on deadline day. The London club agreed to a deal with Barcelona for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and sent Marcos Alonso in the other direction, back to Spain. Then, with just a few hours remaining in the window, Chelsea reportedly swooped for Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria on a season-long loan.

Arsenal also tried to navigate last-minute negotiations for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, but reportedly couldn't meet Villa's asking price.

Pulisic aside, other American players sorted out their short-term futures. Ricardo Pepi on Wednesday signed for Dutch side Groningen on loan from Augsburg. AC Milan arrived out of nowhere to rescue Sergiño Dest from Barcelona, after the 21-year-old fullback balked at interest from Villarreal. Dest signed with the Serie A champs on a season-long loan with a 20 million-euro ($20 million) option to buy.

Elsewhere, John Brooks backed out of move to Mallorca at the 11th hour, and signed for Benfica in Portugal.
