Bob Melvin provides postgame update

Bassitt eventually left the field on a cart. The A's later announced that Bassitt was "conscious and aware" while en route to a hospital. After the game, manager Bob Melvin told reporters that Bassitt never lost consciousness and that the team was still awaiting test results.

"Bass is conscious," Melvin said, per The San Francisco Chronicle. "He was the entire time. We don’t think the eye is a problem at this point. It felt like it was below it. He’s got some cuts.

"They had to do some stitches. He’s in a scan, and we'll know more about potential fractures tomorrow or later tonight."

Melvin didn't take questions after providing his update on Bassitt. The White Sox won the game, 9-0.

The A's released an update on Bassitt's condition on Wednesday, revealing that he did get some stitches, but has been released from the hospital following a CT scan.

"Chris was released from Rush University Medical Center last night. He received stitches for two facial lacerations and was diagnosed with a displaced tripod fracture in his right cheek that will require surgery. An exam of his right eye was normal for vision and no other damage is currently noted in the eye or in the orbital bone. In addition, a head CT scan revealed no further injury. We are grateful to the White Sox, their medical staff, and the doctors and nurses at Rush for their excellent care. We'll have more information on Chris as it becomes available."

Bassitt later provided his own update on Twitter.

Bassitt is Oakland's best pitcher this season, with a a 3.06 ERA and 12-3 record entering Tuesday's game. The 32-year-old made his first All-Star team in July.
