Oklahoma paints Green Wave logo on field after Tulane was forced to relocate due to Hurricane Ida

Tulane was forced to move its season opener against No. 2 Oklahoma on Saturday from New Orleans to Norman, Oklahoma, due to Hurricane Ida, which made landfall in Louisiana last week.

The game was, undoubtedly, set to be one of the biggest non-conference games the school ever hosted.

Though things didn’t go according to plan, the Sooners are doing everything in their power to make the Green Wave feel at home.

On Friday, the school even added the Green Wave logo to the field at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Tulane will still be the home team for the contest, and the school will retain all profits from tickets sold. The two schools are currently working on a future date for the Sooners to make the trip to New Orleans.

"In this extraordinarily difficult moment for the people of Louisiana, we want to do our small part by assisting Tulane with the game this weekend," Oklahoma president Joseph Harroz Jr. said in a statement. "While we regret that it's necessary for us to host it, we will welcome the Tulane family this Saturday with open arms and heavy hearts. We hope this act is one small way that we can help alleviate some of the stress the university is currently enduring.

"Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with all those impacted and those helping with the relief and recovery in the coming weeks and months."

Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans on Sunday as a Category 4 hurricane. The storm killed at least 12 people in the state, per The New York Times, and left thousands in New Orleans without power. Remnants of the storm hit the Northeast on Thursday, and killed at least 43 people as flooding and tornados hit the region.

Tulane evacuated students to the Houston area due to the storm, and has canceled classes through Sept. 12. The school will also hold classes online at least through Oct. 6 as the campus recovers.
