Jets DE Vinny Curry out for season after complications from surgery for rare blood disorder

Vinny Curry was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder last month, hence why the New York Jets placed the defensive end on the reserve/non-football injury list on Tuesday.

Curry explained the scary situation in an Instagram post on Wednesday. He will be out for the season. He expects to return to the team in 2022.

Curry wrote:

"In July, the Jets doctors diagnosed me with a rare blood disorder. The diagnoses required the removal of my spleen and projected me to return to the field in the middle of September. During my recovery blood clots formed and forced me to go on blood thinners preventing me from having physical contact for the next three to six months. While I am incredibly disappointed that I will not be able to play with my teammates this year, I am thankful that the doctors identified my condition in time. They have informed me that I am expected to make a full recovery and return to the field next season. I am so grateful to all those who have reached out to me on the phone, through social media, and in person. I can promise them all that I will be back stronger and more determined than ever."

Curry, 33, is in his first year with the Jets after spending all but one of his nine seasons in Philadelphia. He was expected to help in the pass rash, particularly with defensive end Carl Lawson out for the season with an Achilles injury.
