Hideki Matsuyama's off-target drive lands in ... a spectator's shirt?

Hideki Matsuyama hit a one-in-a-million shot on Friday.

The 2021 Masters champion's 10th hole in the second round of The Northern Trust got off to a bizarre start on Friday when his drive veered into the right rough, bounced once and landed in the shirt of a spectator standing on the court path.

Even more oddly, this ball did not go down the man's shirt. It apparently took the, um, scenic route.

"[The ball] went between my legs, hit my knee and somehow rolled up into my shirt," the man could be heard saying to officials as the woman next to him tried to control her laughter.

The situation earned the man a meeting with Matsuyama, who surveyed his landing spot in good spirits before marking off where the man's foot was. Once the spot was marked and the ball was freed, Matsuyama signed the ball and gave it to the man for his trouble.

The man might have actually saved Matsuyama a stroke or two, as the ball could have easily landed out-of-bounds on the par 4 10th hole. Instead, Matsuyama was able to take the free cart path drop and hit his ball slightly past the green for his second shot. A chip and two-putt would leave him with a bogey.

As the PGA Tour notes, we've seen something like this before. In 2014, Rory McIlroy hit a drive that landed in a spectator's pocket at the Tour Championship and even went on to make par.

Jon Rahm moved into sole possession of the lead on Friday after firing a 4-under 67. Tony Finau is one shot off the pace.
