Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley carted off early against Cowboys after suffering brutal injuries

Both New York Giants stars Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones had to be carted to the locker room in the first half on Sunday afternoon in Dallas.

Barkley went down in the first quarter after rolling his ankle on the foot of a Cowboys safety. Jones then had to be carted off after taking a hit near the end zone just before halftime of their lopsided 44-20 loss.

Jones, coach Joe Judge said after the game, should have clearance to fly home with the team despite his concussion. Barkley left AT&T Stadium in a walking boot and on crutches, and underwent x-rays on his ankle. Giants wide receiver Kenny Golladay also left the loss early after he said he hyperextended his knee in the first quarter, which he said just got worse as the game went on.

Saquon Barkley carted off after rolling ankle

Just a few games after making his way back to the field following an ACL injury, Barkley had to be carted off the field at AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Barkley rolled his ankle off the foot of Cowboys safety Jourdan Lewis in the first quarter of their NFC East matchup. His ankle swelled up fast on the sidelines, and he needed to be carted off the field back to the locker room.

Barkley’s ankle rolled completely on its side. Though he popped up quickly, Barkley hobbled to the sidelines without putting much weight on it at all.

It’s unclear how severe Barkley’s injury really is, though the Giants didn’t waste much time ruling him out for the rest of the game — which is never a good sign. He had two carries for nine yards when he went down.

The 24-year-old underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL last September, which caused him to miss nearly all of last season. He had racked up 186 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries headed into Sunday’s game in Dallas.

Jones went down late in the first half after trying to run a ball into the end zone himself.

Jones was stopped just short of the goal line, but made direct helmet-to-helmet contact with Cowboys linebacker Jabril Cox.

Jones was a bit uneasy getting up, and looked like he lost his balance trying to walk off the field. Jones was ruled out with a concussion, and was replaced by backup Mike Glennon for their final drive before halftime.

Jones had gone 5-of-13 for 98 yards when he went down. The 24-year-old had thrown for more than 1,180 yards and four touchdowns so far this season coming into Sunday’s game while completing better than 66% of his passes.
