Football rumours from the media

What the papers say

Manchester United players may want Aston Villa and England player Jack Grealish to join the club but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly has a different target this summer. United’s manager will prioritise signing England winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, according to the Telegraph. The Manchester City junior’s chances of returning home have been given a boost with German outlet Bild reporting Dortmund have told the 21-year-old he is free to leave.

West Ham are concerned United will block their attempt to sign Jesse Lingard, who played a key role on loan in the Hammers’ charge to the Europa League, the Sun reports. The paper says West Ham have made it clear they want the 28-year-old England midfielder, who scored nine goals in 16 appearances on loan, to stay in the capital permanently but there has been no contact between the clubs.

Wolves reportedly believe they have found the right person to replace manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The Telegraph reports former Benfica boss Bruno Lage, who has previously spent time in the UK as an assistant at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea, has flown to England for talks with the club. The 45-year-old Portuguese is expected to take over in the next few weeks from Nuno, who leaves after four seasons in charge, but the paper has been told the deal has not yet been finalised.

The Mail says a social media post has sparked speculation Australia goalkeeper Mat Ryan might prolong his stay at Arsenal. The Brighton player spent the second half of the season with the Gunners and tweeted his thanks to the club, adding he was “excited for what the future will bring”. That future may not include Brighton, where Robert Sanchez has emerged as the main man between the sticks. Ryan, 29, has admitted he became an Arsenal fan as a child after watching a documentary on the club and Thierry Henry.
