Australia march on undefeated in Women’s Ashes

Australia sealed victory in the Twenty20 section of the Women’s Ashes with a comfortable seven-wicket win over England at Hove on Sunday.

Tammy Beaumont was the best with the bat for England as she scored 43 from 39 balls en route to what the hosts hoped would be a competitive total of 121 for eight on a slow pitch.

Beaumont had little assistance from elsewhere, though, with Amy Jones out to just the second ball and captain Heather Knight and tail-ender Sophie Ecclestone contributing 17 runs each.

With the Ashes already lost, England briefly had a glimmer of hope of a first win in the series when they had Australia 35 for three early on.

However, the complexion of the match all changed with captain Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry at the crease.

Lanning carried on from where she left off in her unbeaten 133 last time out, adding 43 not out with Perry 47no as they put together a partnership that saw the tourists ease past their target with 13 balls to spare.
