Mets mistakenly announce two living 1969 players as dead

The New York Mets honoured the 50th anniversary of their 1969 World Series champions with a series of events, including an emotional tribute that played during Saturday's game to remember players who have since died.

The only problem was the Mets included Jim Gosger, 76, and Jesse Hudson, 70, in the video, but the two are still alive.

"WE REMEMBER" was displayed on a large screen next to rotating names and photos, which included Gosger and Hudson.

Gosger later confirmed on his Facebook page the Mets had been in contact to apologise for their error.

"I just received a call from the NY Mets," he wrote. "They apologised for the mistake. I guess a couple of my friends got through to their office."
