Blues forward Klemmer out for six weeks with fractured wrist

New South Wales Blues star David Klemmer is set for up to six weeks out of action with a fractured wrist, putting his involvement in State of Origin II and III in doubt.

Klemmer sustained a wrist injury in the Blues' Origin I defeat to Queensland Maroons in Brisbane on Wednesday.

He returned to club side Newcastle Knights and was ruled out of Friday's clash with South Sydney Rabbitohs, with further review set for next week.

The Knights confirmed that Klemmer had fractured a small bone in his hand and estimated the injury would keep him out for between four and six weeks.

A six-week lay-off would suggest the forward would miss both remaining matches in the Origin series on June 23 and July 10.

However, the NRL reported that Klemmer opted against undergoing surgery in the hope he would recover for Game III in Sydney.
