Storm rally to beat Tigers
Will Chambers' late try capped a Melbourne Storm fightback as Wests Tigers were consigned to a 24-22 NRL defeat on Thursday.
The Storm thrashed Parramatta Eels at the Magic Round in Brisbane last weekend, but they had to dig deep to claim the points at AAMI Park.
Melbourne lost in-form forward Christian Welch to a sustained anterior cruciate ligament injury on the stroke of half-time, but rallied to go top of the ladder.
Ryan Papenhuyzen scored a contender for try of the season in the first half, jinking his way past a few Tigers players before tearing away from deep in his own half. However, a Josh Aloiai score and eight points from the boot of Esan Marsters gave the Tigers a 12-8 lead at the break.
Luke Brooks powered his way over to extend Wests' lead early in the second half and Marsters added another try, which he converted after Felise Kaufusi finished at the other end.
Michael Maguire's men could not hold onto their eight-point lead, though, as Marion Seve crossed the whitewash and Chambers burst over three minutes from time after Kenneath Bromwich set him up.
Cameron Smith tallied eight points from the tee as Craig Bellamy's side moved above Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs, who both have a game in hand.
