Rockies infielder Murphy expects to go on IL with broken finger
Colorado Rockies infielder Daniel Murphy is fighting off the injury bug again.
The 33-year-old told reporters he fractured his index finger in the Rockies' win over the Miami Marlins on Friday and expects to go on the injured list.
Murphy signed a two-year, $24million deal with the Rockies this offseason.
He was expected to fill the hole in the lineup DJ LeMahieu left when Colorado decided not to re-sign him.
Murphy missed 71 games last year as he recovered from offseason knee surgery.
"I think I have a fracture in it so if I'm not mistaken I'm supposed to go and see a hand specialist on Monday," Murphy told MLB.com.
It is likely Ian Desmond could see more time in the infield with Murphy out and other players like Garrett Hampson and Raimel Tapia could play center field as the veteran vacates that spot.
