Trout reportedly set to sign record-breaking deal with Angels

Mike Trout is set to sign a record-breaking contract worth $430million with the Los Angeles Angels.

As reported by ESPN, Trout is finalising terms with the Angels on a 12-year extension that will see him become the highest paid player in American sports.

The deal will see the two-time MVP surpass Zack Greinke's $34.4m to top the MLB's list of average annual earners, as he will net nearly $36m per season.

Trout, who has made seven All-Star teams in his career, is in the penultimate year of a $144m contract he signed with Los Angeles in 2015.

The Angels selected the 27-year-old with the 25th overall pick in the 2009 draft.

He has hit 240 home runs in his career, as well as stealing 189 bases and driving in 648 runs.

There had been rumours Trout could join Bryce Harper - whose 13-year, $330m deal had raised the bar in terms of leading earners in the United States - at the Philadelphia Phillies, but he seems set to stay put instead.
