Bears release kicker Cody Parkey

The Chicago Bears released experienced NFL kicker Cody Parkey on Wednesday.

The Bears were expected to release Parkey at the start of the new league year despite signing him to a four-year deal worth $15million before last season – making him the league's fourth-highest paid placekicker.

Parkey missed a career-high seven field goals in the 2018-19 season. His crucial double-doink in the wild-card round ended the Bears' postseason run with a 16-15 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in front of a stunned home crowd.

Chicago made the move all-but-official last week by signing free-agent kicker Chris Blewitt to an undisclosed deal.

The team also tendered contracts to all three of their exclusive free agents, including defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris, outside linebacker Isaiah Irving and offensive lineman Rashaad Coward.
