QB Bridgewater set to renew with Saints & reject Miami

Free-agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is set to stay with the New Orleans Saints, according to widespread reports.

NFL.com report Bridgewater is expected to re-sign with the Saints ahead of his sixth season and reject a bigger offer that was on the table from the Miami Dolphins.

It is suggested Bridgewater opted to stay as a back-up with the Saints as he values the chance to succeed Drew Brees, 40, as starter and because he values the culture at the franchise.

In his first full season back after suffering a gruesome knee injury in training camp in 2016, Bridgewater impressed during the preseason with the New York Jets.

The 26-year-old was then traded to New Orleans ahead of the start of the regular season and eventually got in some work in Week 17 after the Saints clinched the top seed in the NFC playoffs, though he put on a lacklustre performance as he finished 14-of-22 for 118 yards.

Bridgewater was a first-round pick with the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 and is 17-12 as a starter.
