Collins set for $84m Redskins deal

The Dallas Cowboys were not interested in pursuing Landon Collins but they will still have to play him.

The free-agent safety has reportedly opted to sign with the Washington Redskins.

According to NFL Media, Collins will sign a six-year deal worth $84million with $45m guaranteed and paid out over the first three years.

The New York Giants declined to use the franchise tag on Collins, which would have paid him an $11.15m salary in 2019.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Cowboys were rumoured to be in the running for Collins, but Dallas later claimed to have "no interest" in signing any safety.

Collins, 25, was selected by the Giants with the number 33 overall pick of the 2015 draft. The All-Pro selection suffered a partially torn rotator cuff in Week 13 last season, which required surgery after he was placed on injured reserve.

He finished with 96 total tackles, four pass breakups and a forced fumble through 12 games in 2018.
