Falcons place franchise tag on DT Grady Jarrett
The Atlanta Falcons have opted to use their franchise tag on defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.
According to Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff, the tag was applied just to keep the avenues open to signing Grady to a long-term extension.
"As we have said since the end of the season, getting a deal done with Grady is our priority," Dimitroff said.
"Applying the franchise tag to him does not change that in any way. Our aim is for Grady to be an integral part of our plan for many years to come and this allows us to extend our negotiating window."

Dimitroff's statement reiterates what he said at the end of the Falcons' 2018 season – that signing Garrett to an extension was a top priority.
Jarrett, who was drafted by the Falcons in 2015, showcased his talent in his sophomore season when the Falcons went to Super Bowl LI. He sacked Patriots quarterback Tom Brady three times in the team's 34-28 loss.
In his four seasons in the league, Jarrett has totalled 179 tackles, 31 tackles for a loss and three forced fumbles.
