Chloe Kim needs surgery on broken ankle

Chloe Kim revealed she had broken her ankle and will require surgery after participating in the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships.

Kim did not say how she had broken her ankle, but the revelation came after she finished second in the tournament to fellow American Maddie Mastro.

Mastro posted a score of 84.74, which was better than Kim’s 84.62.

Kim, who won halfpipe gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics, will not be able to participate in the U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe competition on March 9.

Writing on Twitter, Kim said: "Today was insane!!! Love watching women’s snowboarding progress! Unfortunately found out that I broke my ankle today so I will need to get surgery to get it fixed. So bummed I won’t be able to compete in Mammoth but I will be there to support!!"
