Tomkins on target as Dragons take down Wolves
Catalans Dragons handed Warrington Wolves their first defeat in Super League this season as the home team prevailed 23-22 victory in Perpignan.
Sam Tomkins slotted over a late penalty to settle a see-saw contest in favour of the Dragons, who move up to sixth in the table after recording back-to-back wins in front of their own supporters at the start of 2019.
The French club's big-name recruit kicked 10 points in total, including converting tries from Fouad Yaha and Tony Gigot that opened up an early 14-0 lead.
Stefan Ratchford responded with a try that he also converted, and while Gigot's drop-goal made it 15-6 at the break, Warrington hit back in the second half.
Daryl Clark touched down to further reduce the gap and the Wolves were ahead for the first time when Ryan Atkins collected Declan Patton's high kick to score.
Remi Casty plunged over to put the Dragons back in front, only for Warrington to respond with a try from Patton that owed much to Chris Hill's excellent offload.
Ratchford's successful conversion made it 22-21 to the visitors, yet Tomkins had the last word when he kept his composure off the kicking tee from long range with five minutes remaining.
